Our Minister & Wife
Jimmy and Mollie Elder

Jimmy and Mollie Elder are charter members of the West Russell Street Church of Christ in Villa Rica, Georgia. Brother Jimmy and Sister Mollie have been married for 43 years and resides in Carrollton, Georgia. They are long time members of the body of Christ and were very instrumental in establishing the congregation in the area. They are former members of the West Georgia Church of Christ in Carrollton, Georgia (now known as the Carrollton Church of Christ).
Their mission is to bring souls to Christ.
The West Russell Street congregation is very unique when considering its beginning and establishment. It did not begin as a result of any congregational schism or conflicts, but, as a result of house-to-house bible studies. The church is a warm and friendly congregation that believes in letting the bible speak. The congregation welcomes everyone to come and join in worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

What We Believe

We are the Church of Christ, an autonomous predenominational Christian church dedicated to the original teachings of Jesus Christ and the Apostles whom he chose. We are affiliated with the Churches of Christ across the globe who strive to uphold the unifying teachings and living mandates of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Church of Christ was founded by Jesus Christ in AD33 in the city of Jerusalem, as promised by Christ in (Matthew 16:18).The teachings of that church as recorded in
(Acts 2:36-42 & 47) produced the first Christians.
This teaching was then spread across the world as commanded by Jesus Christ in
(Matthew 28:18-20).
Since then, we have been a burning light for the gospel and teachings of Jesus Christ in the state of Georgia. We believe the Bible is the Word of God and it is without doctrinal error. It is doctrinally complete and it does not contradict itself. We believe in Jesus Christ as the only divine Savior for all of mankind. We believe that only the gospel as taught and exemplified by Jesus Christ and his apostles contains the power to save men’s souls. Therefore, there is a pattern to be observed and followed. Our uniqueness of Service to the Lord includes:
We come together to worship on Sunday
(Acts 20:7)
We sing acapella
(Matt 26:30)
We pray (1 Thess 5:17-18)We give as God prospers each Sunday
(1 Cor 16:1-2)
We remember the Lord’s sacrifice in communion each Sunday
(1 Cor 11:23-26)
We preach from the Bible in a way in which you can easily follow along.

Have you really thought about it ???

OUR HISTORY"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.." Matt. 28:19
During the period 1993 to 1994, a small group of individuals began meeting together for bible study in the home of John and Jodella Chism at 127 Cleghorn Street in Villa Rica, Georgia. The bible studies were conducted by Van Heflin, Jimmy Elder, and Thomas Mason. After numerous bible studies, on March 16, 1997, a group consisting of Van Heflin, John Chism, Jimmy Elder, Mollie Elder, Eula Wilson (deceased), Troy Henderson and Thomas Mason met at the Community Center on Horace Luther Drive in Villa Rica. John Chism was the first convert baptized on March 23, 1997.
Because the congregation did not have a baptistery, the Villa Rica Church of Christ on Hwy 61, in Villa Rica was gracious in allowing us to use their baptistery to baptize candidates for baptism.
Those attending during those days were John and Jodella Chism; Van and Barbara Heflin (deceased); Jimmy and Mollie Elder, Thomas and Janice Mason & children; Segovia and Tabitha Chism (deceased), Troy and Yolanda Henderson & children; Regina Chism and children; Eula Wilson; Sidney and Debbie Chism & children; and Jermaine and Phyllis Zachery.
Hymn books were purchased and donated by the Central Church of Christ, Carrollton Georgia where Brother Al Green labors. During this time, numerous individuals Mildred Allen, Lucille Meadlock, Monique Pittman, Barbara Heflin (deceased), Neomia Elder (deceased), Ronnie Chism, Beatrice Carter, Johnny and Carolyn Chism, Kathy Emerson, and many others unnamed, provided financial donations, which allowed the congregation to operate. Special donations were given by Hayes-Glass Church of Christ in Bremen, Georgia, Callahan Street Church of Christ in Rome, Georgia, the Lithonia Church of Christ in Lithonia, Georgia and Westside Road School Church of Christ in Newnan Georgia. Brother Bill Dedmon and the Bowdon Church of Christ donated song and hymn books to the congregation.
The congregation continued to meet in the Community Center until
September 1997. Afterwards, we met in the home of John and Jodella Chism, in addition to the Villa Rica Recreation Department facilities Powell Park and Gold Dust, when available and the community room at Regions Bank. On November 6, 1997, the congregation closed on the purchase of approximately one (1) acre of property located at 105 West Russell Street in Villa Rica. This property acquisition came about as a result of Brother John Chism's contacts with Gladys Scott, who sold the property to the church.
On March 14, 1998, the congregation paid for the property in full and subsequently approached Regions Bank regarding the financing to build a worship facility.
Van Heflin, assisted by Jimmy Elder and Thomas Mason, ministered at the congregation from March 1997 to December 1998. Jimmy Elder and Thomas Mason ministered at the congregation from December 1998 to December 1999, and were assisted by Ronald Burts, Bruce Johnson and Tony Elder. On December 19, 1999, Brother William "Bill" Davis accepted position of minister at the congregation.
Other ministers and teachers who have assisted the congregation in teaching the gospel were Neil Vines, Greg Jolly and John Henry Clay.
The providence of God is beyond man's comprehension, and through that providence, God worked through several individuals in the community of Villa Rica. Those individuals are: John Weitz, Dick Chambers, Alan Bell (architect), Randy Boyd, Tiny Cole (deceased), Debra Harper, Jean Williams (deceased), Steve Russell, Shirley Marchman, and Paul Soudi.
On February 2, 2000, the first Wednesday night Bible study and devotion was held in the new edifice by Jimmy Elder. On February 6, 2000, the first Sunday worship service was held and Brother Bill Davis gave the sermon.
On a further historical note, on February 27, 2000, Sister Tossie Hindsman was the first convert baptized in the new edifice.
Over the course of years following the erection of the building, several dedicated men of God shepherded the work at West Russell. Brother Winston Martin accepted the position as minister and was assisted by Brother Jimmy Elder and Brother George Mayo from the West End Church of Christ from April 2002 until September 2004. In October 2004, Brother Ronnie Nation became minister of the congregation and would labor until
August 2005. Brother Jimmy Elder, who is the current minister, accepted the position around September 2005. During this period of time, Brother Elder has been greatly assisted by Brother George Mayo and Brother Al Green. Under the leadership of these God fearing men, many souls have been baptized into Christ.
Please continue to pray for us to remain steadfast, unmovable, always in the work of the Lord. We will strive to continue to walk by faith and not by sight as we have come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord.

Thank you
